Soooo, like most of the world, we have been sheltering at home due to the pandemic and there is only so much you can do at home. Now that the weather is finally getting nicer, we’ve been spending more time outside. Which means we’ve also been chatting with our neighbors. One of my neighbors gardens every year, and my kiddos have become very interested in helping her. Which is funny because, I’m not sure if it’s the pandemic or what, but I started to get the gardening bug too. I’ve seen quiet a few people start gardens during this pandemic and I think they’re rubbing off on me. 😂
I use to think I had no green thumb what so ever. I killed every house plant I had for years. Recently, I’ve been able to keep a couple alive. They might be the easiest house plants I could find, but I’m doing it. It’s building my confidence that I can do a garden. So, Mr. S bought some herbs and a few peppers for us to give it a try.
We started out with some basil, flat parsley, curly parley, oregano, red pepper and jalapeno pepper. It’s been a family event and my kiddos are loving it. Every day we go outside to check in on the garden, and water the garden.
We are about two weeks in and there has been a lot of growth with the herbs. The pepper plants are growing but no peppers yet.
We also have an apple tree, blueberry plant, and a couple grape vines in our yard too. The apple tree is starting to grow some small apples. Our blueberry plant is sprouting flowers, so hopefully some blueberries will bloom soon, as long as we can keep all the bunnies away. The grape vines we just planted this year so those will be a little while.
More photos and updates to come 🙂
Udapte: July 29th. We’ve got A LOT of peppers! We’ve had peppers growing for a few weeks now, but they are really starting to come in and grow.
Bell Peppers.. hopefully these will turn red soon Jalapeno peppers
We’ve tried the jalapenos.. they’ve got quite the kick, and slightly still a little hard, so they need a little bit longer to continue ripping up.
We’ve also FINALLLLLY have some blueberries. There is a lot of little berries on the bush, but they weren’t turning blue on us. We finally have a few turning blue, and according to the kids… “they’re perfect”
Update: September 8th. So the peppers seem to have caught a bug and although they are turning red, none of them are good to eat. They keep turning bad before they’re ready to pick. Something got inside of them and is not letting them flourish. The jalapenos have been doing great. Still growing plenty of basil and some parsley. Parsley seems to be coming to its end of season. I think our gardening days are numbered. However, this was a lot of fun with the kids so I’m fairly confident we will be doing this again next spring/summer, probably a bit bigger.
